NPP MP welcomes Narenda Modi in Parliament with Indian-inspired look

The Member of Parliament for Akim Oda, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, captured attention in Parliament on Wednesday, July 2, appearing in full Indian attire to welcome Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his official address to Ghana’s Parliament.

Acquah wore a cream-coloured sherwani, a traditional Indian long coat, paired with a matching turban.

This outfit, typically reserved for formal or ceremonial occasions in India, notably stood out in the parliamentary chamber, symbolising cultural respect during the Prime Minister's address.

The Prime Minister of India is currently on a two-day official visit to Ghana.

During his visit, he engaged in high-level talks and, in his address to Parliament, lauded Ghana as a "beacon of democratic inspiration for Africa."

Prime Minister Modi also received Ghana’s highest honour, the Order of the Star of Ghana, during a state banquet hosted by President John Dramani Mahama at Jubilee House on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.

He accepted the award as a solemn responsibility to strengthen cultural and economic relations between the two countries.

Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to depart Accra on Thursday, July 3, 2025, en route to Trinidad and Tobago, ahead of the BRICS Summit in Brazil.
