NDP Congress has not been postponed indefinitely - Communications Director

The National Democratic Party (NDP) on Thursday refuted allegations that its Congress, dubbed the National Convention, has been postponed indefinitely.

The party said the National Convention had been postponed to October 12 and 13, 2012 and that further details would be provided before the end of the week.

A press release issued and signed by Dr. David Sunu, acting Director of Communications of the party and copied to the Ghana News Agency said the postponement had nothing to do with the reluctance of Nana Konadu to accept the flagbearership position of the party but rather due to logistical constraints and strategy.

It said the party was on course to make an impact in the 2012 elections and denied issuing any official document about the postponement.

The release said the party had formed Community Organisation Bureaux at each polling station to ensure that members did not only play the usual political mobilization roles but also played social watchdog roles and become economically empowered.

“We wish to reassure members of the great NDP that because our agenda is bigger than parochial short-term benefits we must remain true to the course and that power must return to the people again”, the release added.
