NDC women activists cautioned against falsehood

Nkoranza (B/A) Sept. 2, GNA - Women activists of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), have been asked to be wary of rumours being peddled that government has initiated programmes and activities to support them financially.

Mrs. Esther Owusu-Baffoe, Nkoranza South constituency women's organiser of the party, who made the call, said that such attitudes and activities by some political activists were "calculated steps" to divide the ranks of the NDC. She told GNA at Nkoranza that some female activists of the party had visited her office to seek clarification on information that the government had released funds to the NDC leadership in the constituency to be disbursed as loans to support their economic activities. "This is a wild rumour and there is no iota of truth in it and no body should believe it", Mrs Owusu-Baffoe stated. The NDC women's organiser said she recalled that Mr. Johnson Asiedu-Nketiah, NDC General Secretary, made an assurance at a meeting in Sunyani some time go that government would consider financial support for women to help improve their living standards. Mrs Owusu-Baffoe said: "If even such support from the government would materialize, all women irrespective of their political affiliation will benefit from such package" and advised the activists to bear with the government.

She urged the activists to remain united and support the NDC to enable it to meet the expectations of Ghanaians so that the party could be return in power in 2012. Mrs Owusu-Baffoe said she would organise a meeting for all NDC women groups at all zonal centres in the constituency to keep them abreast with developments in the party. 2 Sept 09
