The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Volta Region has extended its deepest sympathies to citizens affected by the recent flood disaster caused by spillages from the Akosombo and Kpong Dams, which were opened by the Volta River Authority (VRA) in September 2023.

The flood disaster has impacted approximately 39,000 Ghanaians downstream, resulting in significant loss of lives, properties, and livelihoods.

In response to the crisis, the NDC is urging all flood victims who have lost their voter ID cards to take immediate action to have them replaced.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has confirmed that replacements will be provided free of charge for all flood victims.

This initiative is essential to ensure that all eligible voters can participate in the December 7 elections and future electoral processes without any obstacles.

Affected individuals are encouraged to visit the nearest EC Offices in their respective districts from May 30 to June 14, 2024, to replace their lost voter ID cards.

The EC is also facilitating the process for those who wish to transfer their votes or apply to vote by proxy.

"The NDC is committed to supporting this process and will provide any necessary assistance to facilitate a smooth and efficient replacement procedure," stated Mr Sorkpa Kafui Agbleze, the Volta Regional Communications Officer.

"Every citizen's right to vote is fundamental and inalienable, and we stand with them to ensure that this right is preserved despite the challenges posed by the unfortunate flood disaster."

The NDC remains dedicated to advocating for and assisting the people of the Volta Region.

The party emphasized its commitment to helping the region's residents navigate the aftermath of the disaster and participate fully in the democratic process.

"The NDC is dedicated to advocating for the people of the Volta Region and ensuring they have the support needed during this difficult time," Agbleze added.

"We are united in our efforts to democratically oust the current Nana Addo-Bawumia-led NPP government, which we view as clueless, reckless, and super-incompetent."

The NDC's call to action is a crucial step in ensuring that the voices of those affected by the floods are heard and that their rights as citizens are upheld.
