NDC no match for NPP - Awutu-Senya MP

Awutu-Bawjiase (C/R), Oct 1, GNA - Mr Oppey Abbey, Member of Parliament for Awutu-Senya, has stated that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would be defeated again in the next year Presidential and Parliamentary election in the constituency.

He stated that the NDC Parliamentary Candidate to contest the 2008 elections would motivate the NPP to what he called "Strip the party naked".

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Awutu-Bawjiase on Sunday, he said that the assertions by the NDC candidate that he would defeat the MP was false since the NPP had built "solid grounds" to win in the constituency.

He noted that since Nana Larbi contested and lost primaries to be the NPP candidate 2004 and stood as an Independent and again lost to him getting what the MP called "only sympathy votes" and had now defected to the NDC, "he will be totally defeated" in the 2008 elections.

Mr Abbey said he had sponsored more than 145 brilliant but needy students in the area to continue their education and stated that even though the area was deprived one and the people poor the NDC candidate "can not throw dust into the eyes of the people".

He stated that 42 communities in the area would be connected to the national grid in March next year through the rural electrification project.

The MP said low and high tension poles had already been purchased for the project to start.

He said approval would soon be given for the construction of a modern market at Awutu-Bawjaise to improve the livelihood of the people and to increase revenue for the District Assembly. Mr Abbey stated that the road network at Senya Bereku had be rehabilitated and tarred while pipelines were being laid for the provision of potable water.

He noted that the NDC had nothing to offer the people of the constituency since it could not improve the living conditions of the people during its 12-year dominance in the area from 1992 to the 2004. The MP charged the people to be ready to take advantage of the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) scheduled to start next year to improve their lot.
