NDC holds big regional Accra Rally

Accra, Nov. 6, GNA - The National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Saturday held a rally in Accra to bolster its drive to unseat the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming elections.

The rally, which was organized to sharpen the popularity and image of the Party, particularly to project the NDC's Presidential Candidate, Professor John Evans Atta Mills, as well as some 27 parliamentary contestants in the Greater Accra Region, drew several thousands of supporters to the seafront 'Mantse Agbona,' venue for the event.

As has been the usual spectacle at such events, the entire area, including the adjoining streets turned into a sea of NDC paraphernalia with some activists decorating their human bodies with Party colours and symbols in sheer excitement as proud followers of a major opposition party.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) shortly before the proceedings began, top NDC officials touted the fact that their Party was united as never before and ready to recapture power from the NPP, which they claimed, had failed the electorate.

Dr Obed Yaw Asamoah, National Chairman of the Party told the GNA that the Party would keep to the political high ground and move forward with one voice.

"We're going to talk about positive issues. We're not going to do personality bashing at every turn," he said.

Dr Asamoah said the Party's major goal for the next few days would be to intensify the messages of social democracy ideology, as well as promote the profiles of Prof. Mills and the Vice Presidential nominee Alhaji Mohammad Mumuni to the electorate.

"It is necessary that they (electorate) continue to make a judgment on him as they continue to interact with him and understand his personality nature. It is our hope that they'll make a judgment on him after his appearance at the debate and also make that final judgment about him when he is sworn in as President of Ghana," the NDC Chairman told the GNA.

Dr Asamoah said the campaign was going well. "We are feeling good about all the developments," he said, adding that the NDC had gained some strategic political grounds.

The NDC Chairman appealed to NDC supporters to come out on election day, "and speak out through the thumb" by voting massively for the Party's candidates.

"Let's move forward to recapture power as a solidified body and let's focus on our mission to work for the socio-economic development of the country," Dr Asamoah stressed.
