NDC aspirants urged to focus on party’s interest

Mr Albert Abongo, the outgoing Member of Parliament (MP) for Bongo Constituency, has urged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary aspirants to put the interest of the party ahead of their personnel interests.

The MP, therefore, impressed upon all the six parliamentary aspirants and their campaign teams to go about their campaigns devoid of personal attacks and petty squabbles so as to position the party well to retain power in 2016.

Mr Abongo gave the advice at a ceremony organised by Mr Atongo Thomas Adongo, winner of the District Level Election for the Lungu Electoral Area, to express his appreciation to the people.

Mr Abongo had been in Parliament for 16 years and decided to step down to pave way for others to contest the seat.

He impressed upon the community members to give the new assemblyman the necessary support to enable him to succeed.

Mr Abongo called on the people to ensure peace prevailed adding; "development cannot thrive in an atmosphere of disunity. I therefore appeal to you to let unity and peace prevail among you for the sake of development.”

The Assembly member, Mr Adongo, said he would lobby with the District Assembly and other development partners to address the problems in the area which include lack of education and health infrastructure, lack of teachers and health personnel, acute water shortage and sanitation problems.

He said the only CHPS Compound in the area lacked resident midwife to handle antenatal, post natal and all pregnancy related problems and gave the assurance that he would liaise with the Ghana Health Service to ensure that the area got a resident midwife.

“I will lobby for an additional classroom block for the Young-Tua Day Care Centre to decongest the primary school and also lobby for more teaching and learning materials to facilitate teaching and learning,” he said.
