NDC Supporters fight over 'take away'

Teeming supporters who were bussed to accompany President John Mahama on his “Thank You” tour on Wednesday threw caution to the wind when they engaged each other violently over packaged rice popularly known as 'take away'.

This came up after hours of following the President to comb the streets of Koforidua. Many were tired, hungry and thirsty hence stormed the Regional Minister's residence hoping to get something to quench their thirst and hunger.

And their hope came up when after a while huge boxes of packaged rice were brought to be distributed. But to the dismay of the party's regional executives, both young and old started strangling each other just to get their share.

Embarrassed by the turn of events, the executives were ushered into the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) where they were decently treated to some buffet meal.

Addressing residents during his tour however, President Mahama reiterated that as part of the rich culture and custom of the country, it behooves each individual or family to express a sense of appreciation to the people who gave all manner of support when the nation was bereaved.

According to him, it was on that premise that he has decided to tour the country to thank every Ghanaian for their unflinching support they offered during the death of late President John Evans Atta Mills.

He took the opportunity to to respond to some remarks making the rounds in the media that there was no need for him to travel across the country to thank Ghanaians since he could have easily done it through letters or on the national television, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC).

But he rebutted the assertion and indicated that, he was well trained and nurtured and as an individual who upholds tradition and custom in high esteem, it would be disrespectful for the very norms and values that Ghanaians share if he does not go round to thank them.
