The row over Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin's reportedly compromised social media accounts is still ongoing as spokesperson for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has pointed the finger at the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and dismissed Communications Minister Samuel Nartey George's call for a formal complaint.
The row began after a post attributed to Afenyo-Markin circulated widely on social media on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, appearing to criticise the anti-LGBTQ+ legislation passed by Parliament on May 29. The post was later deleted and replaced with a disclaimer from the Minority Leader claiming his account had been hacked.
Following that, Sam George challenged the MP to formally file a complaint with the Cybersecurity Authority of Ghana for an investigation into the alleged hack.
However, speaking on Channel One TV on June 6, 2026, Aboagye rejected George's public challenge to Afenyo-Markin, insisting that the Minority Leader owed the minister no such obligation.
"It is his choice to report it to you. Afenyo doesn't have to report it to you. We don't trust you. You could have been the one who even compromised Afenyo's account," Aboagye fired.

Going further, the Bawumia spokesperson revealed that he personally suspects the NDC or Sam George himself was behind the alleged account hack, drawing on what he described as a pattern of behaviour stretching back to the party's time in opposition.
"I have always held that my suspicion is that it was the NDC who actually did that to Afenyo. That is my suspicion. He was doing it even in opposition," he added.
This accusation stems from the controversy surrounding the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, which criminalises LGBTQ+ activities.
