NDC Constituency Chairman urges Party leaders to resource grassroots

Fumbisi(UE), Jan. 8, GNA - A 91-year-old Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for Builsa South, Mr Akankan Anyanga, ha= s warned that the Party risks losing the 2012 election if its structures at the grassroots level are not properly resourced to perform their duties efficiently.

The Constituency Chairman stated this when the outgoing Interior Minister, Mr Martin Amidu, and the Minister of Information, Mr John Tia Akologo, paid working visits to Fumbisi and other areas in the constituency.

The Chairman who said he was one of the founding fathers of the Party i= n the area indicated that they lost the Builsa South seat to the People's National Convention (PNC) candidate in the last election due to the lack of finance to do a vigorous campaign.

He pointed out that the problem was not only peculiar to Builsa South constituency but cut across all the constituencies in the Upper East Region= , particularly the 93orphan constituencies". He noted that because of the love he had for the party he had used much of his resources to run the activities of the party, and appealed to the party hierarchy to ensure that funds were released for running activities a= t the constituency level.

"It is only when the grassroots level of the party are made strong tha= t we can make a significant impact in the 2012 election and this could be don= e by re-sourcing party structures with funding and logistics as early as possible".

Mr Anyanga called on the party to provide means of transportation to reach the remote parts of the Region to undertake campaign activities. He also stressed the need for the NDC government to provide portable water and electricity to the area which was some of the major challenges confronting the people in the area. Mr. Amidu assured the Constituency Ch airman that the concerns raised would be forwarded to the National Executive of the party for consideration and the necessary action. He said there were development plans that would be executed this year across the country including construction of Irrigation dams and creation o= f jobs among others.

In another development, the Chief of Nakong, Pe Banapeh Afagachie, said his people were happy about the development projects that were being executed in the area and mentioned the local school, Community Health post and the cutting of sod by government for the construction of the road linking the traditional area to Wa and Tumu.

He, however, appealed for a police station in the area to help deal with crime.

The Chief of Kayoro Traditional Area, Pe Oscar Batabi, called on the Government to construct a road network in his traditional area leading to the District capital, Paga.
