Dennis Miracles Aboagye, aide to former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has described the conduct of the National Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Chief Sofo Azorka, as the 'biggest embarrassment' in the just ended Akwatia by-election.
Speaking in an interview on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV and monitored by GhanaWeb on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, he described Azorka’s conduct as disgraceful and unbecoming of a politician.

“The biggest embarrassment of the day rests on Azorka. At his age, he should not be instigating violence. Violence has no place in our democracy, and it is sad that someone of his stature still engages in such behaviour,” he stated.
He argued that Azorka’s presence and actions nearly sparked chaos, noting that only the restraint shown by other leaders prevented a violent clash.
According to him, it was shameful for a man of Azorka’s standing to be at the centre of confrontations during an election.

Miracles Aboagye urged the NDC leadership to call their vice chairman to order, stressing that Ghana’s democratic process has matured beyond intimidation and election-related violence.
"This morning, the NDC leadership should be calling Azoka and saying, 'You are 70 years old, it's enough. Go home and rest' It's embarrassing that you have a vice-chairman of the party in power, standing in public with a clenched fist,” he added.
The Akwatia parliamentary by-election, held on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, was marred by tensions when NPP’s third National Vice Chairman, Alhaji Osman Masawudu, was reportedly assaulted during a scuffle involving Azorka and his associates.
