Minister appeals to doctors to resume work

Nii Armah Ashietey, Minister of Employment and Labour Relations has appealed to striking doctors to sympathize with Ghanaians and resume work while government continues to negotiate with their leaders.

“As we are still meeting with your leaders and hopefully we would reach an amicable conclusion; we pray that you will have compassion and patience and start work to save lives.”

Nii Armah Ashietey made the appeal at a victory celebration of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Zongo Caucus within the Adabraka area in the Korle-Klottey Constituency to climax President John Dramani Mahama’s 100 days in office.

Nii Armah Ashietey, who is the Member of Parliament for the area, said since he started work as Minister of Employment and Labour Relation, his office had been inundated with strike actions but with God’s guidance issues are being resolved.

He said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) claimed they were swindled in the 2012 Election and are in court, adding “I don’t think any serious minded political party which wants to rule a country would sit down to be cheated in an election.”

He said the NPP has just gone to court to save their faces.

“They (NPP) did steal in the previous elections which they won so they think we the NDC did the same. But I want to tell them that we the (NDC) are not thieves.”

Nii Armah Ashietey appealed to the members and supporters of the NDC not to entertain any fears but rather stand firm because the case in court would soon be concluded.

He assured the constituents that he would do all within his powers for the party to have a firm ground in the constituency and that the party’s victory in the 2012 election is for all.

Mr Harry Zarkour, NDC Korle-Klottey Constituency Chairman, expressed gratitude to members and supporters at the gathering saying their presence really showed that there is unity in the constituency which would help the party to forge ahead.
