Manya Krobo Assembly elects Agyarko as Presiding Member

Odumase-Krobo (E/R), Nov. 11, GNA - The Manya-Krobo District Assembly at an emergency meeting on Thursday re-elected Mr Emmanuel Agyarko as tits Presiding Member.

Mr Agyarko, who is the Chief Executive of the Food and Drugs Board, polled 61 votes while Mr Joseph Nomo, an elected member of the assembly polled 14 votes.

Earlier before the voting, a third contestant, Ms Rose Mamle Okley, stepped down from the competition.

On the first election which was conducted on the day of inauguration of the assembly, Mr Agyarko polled 40 votes, while Mr Nomo polled 21 votes and Ms Okley, 12 votes.

In his acceptance speech, Mr Agyarko called for the privatization of revenue collection, as well as social services of the assembly. He held that privatizing the Assembly's social service could help improve its revenue to enable it provide better service to the people in the district.

Mr Agyarko expressed his desire to see the district divided into two with the district capital of the second district located at Asesewa, by the end of the four-year term of the assembly. He was optimistic that a prolonged land dispute among the Manya Krobos at Akuse, Odublase and Okwenya would also be resolved before the end of the Assembly's tenure.
