Mahama destroyed economic gains made by his predecessors - Danquah Institute boss

Executive Director of the Danquah Institute, Richard Ahiagbah, has suggested that former President Mahama’s poor performance in government derailed Ghana’s path to development, destroying the solid foundation set by his predecessors, ABC News can report.

According to him, the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress was given a firm economic foundation by his predecessors and considering his level of experience including serving as Vice President under Professor Atta Mills, much was expected of him but he disappointed Ghanaians.

The NDC flagbearer is seeking re-election after losing the 2016 elections to ruling Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party government, recording the worst results of any sitting President in Ghana’s history.

However, speaking in an interview with Accra-based Citi TV, Mr. Ahiagbah argued that the country was ready for a ‘take-off’ when the administration was handed over to him but that the former President managed to reverse the economic gains instead of adding unto it.

According to him, the former President superintended over the retrogression of the country, therefore, he does not deserve another chance to lead the country.

“Objectively, he is actually the cause of why Ghana will have to talk about foundation building again because from when former President Jerry John Rawlings left office and when President John Agyekum Kufuor took over, the foundation building was done. Up until when former President Kufuor left office, the economic foundation for the take-off of this country was laid. But somehow, former President John Dramani Mahama took this economy and run backward with it. So, we have gone back to where we left eight years ago,” he said.
