MP for Asante-Akim South tours constituency

Bompata (Ash), Jan 2, GNA - Mrs. Gifty Ohene Konadu, Member of Parliament (MP) for Asante-Akim South and Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, has toured some parts of the constituency to present items to rainstorm victims and towards some development projects.

Bompata benefited from 300 bags of cement, 10 trips of sand and five trips of stone towards the construction of a women's centre. Victims of a recent rainstorm at Krofa and Mmumuraso received 100 bags of cement and 14 packets of roofing sheets, while the Banka community clinic was presented with a generator.

Addressing separate durbars held in her honour during the tour, Mrs Ohene Konadu called on the people not to heed the smear campaigns designed to discredit the government.

She said in their quest to wrest power from the NPP, the opposition parties would not relent in their efforts to brainwash the electorate just to score cheap political points. Mrs Ohene Konadu said the government was however, not daunted and was committed to the socio-economic development of Ghanaians, adding that it takes time and strenuous efforts to effectively implement sustainable projects.

She therefore, urged the people to rally solidly behind the government as it puts pragmatic measures in place to ensure accelerated development and a firm economic stability and that it would require the support of all Ghanaians to achieve this success. The Deputy Trade and Industry Minister said a number of feasibilities studies were being conducted into the possible introduction of various youth empowerment programmes to offer employment opportunities to the youth in the constituency.

Mrs. Ohene Konadu announced the procurement of a tractor to facilitate the transportation of kola nuts from the farms to a warehouse yet to be built for storage pending their exportation. A parcel of land, she said, had been acquired at Nnadieso for that purpose and that work on the warehouse would begin soon. The MP urged women to form income-generating activity groups to enable them to access loans to set up viable economic ventures as an alternative means of alleviating poverty at the grassroots.

Some of the towns she visited included Kwabeng, Dampong, Asuboa, Krofa, Asankare, Bompata, Wankyi, Adomfe, Obogu, Banka, Amantia, Ofoase and Muronam.
