Kyei Baffour chairs Asante-Akim South NPP

Juaso (Ash), Sept. 28, GNA - Mr Sandys Kyei Baffour, Secretary to the Board of Directors of the Asante-Akyem Rural Bank was on Wednesday elected Chairman of the Asante-Akim South constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at a delegate's congress at Juaso. He polled 87 out of the 126 votes cast to unseat Nana Asante Gyeabour.

Prior to the election, Nana Gyeabour had announced his resignation and consequently pulled out of the elections but the Ashanti Regional Secretariat of the party did not accept his resignation and he therefore had to contest the election.

Mr Isaac Opare was elected First Vice-Chairman while the post of Second Vice-Chairman went to Mr Joseph Opuni with Mr A.K. Owusu-Ansah securing the post of Secretary and Mr Vasco Afrifa taking the post of Assistant Secretary.

The post of constituency Organiser went to Mr Fuseni Osman while Miss Comfort Asamoah took the post of Women's Organiser and Mr George Nimako was elected Treasurer. Mr Sam Cudjoe, Ashanti Regional Secretary of the party, charged the newly elected executive to make the 2008 elections their topmost priority and work towards achieving a landslide victory. He asked them to eschew internal wrangling and fight for the common good of the party.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency after his election, Mr Kyei Baffour said his predecessor occupied the chairmanship position for 14 years and as such the people felt that there was need for a change to inject fresh ideas into the organization of the party in the constituency that was why he won.

He pledged to foster unity among the rank and file of the party and called on all the contestants who lost not to take it to heart and not contribute towards the achievement of success in 2008 but throw their weight behind the new executive in the interest of the party. 28 Sept. 05
