Ken Agyapong's campaign demands sanctions against Wontumi, Abronye over 'anti-party conduct'

The campaign team of New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Agyapong, has called for immediate disciplinary action against two regional chairmen of the Party over what it describes as "gross anti-party conduct."

In a statement on September 28, 2025, the team expressed concern about recent comments by Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi of the Ashanti Region and Kwame Baffoe popularly known as Abronye DC of the Bono Region.

The two regional chairmen were reportedly captured in separate viral videos alleging manipulation of the NPP's electoral register and processes to favour a particular candidate in the run-up to the January 2026 presidential primaries.

According to Team Ken, the remarks by Wontumi and Abronye amount to gross misconduct and a violation of the NPP's constitution.

NPP distances itself from statements by Wontumi, Abronye

The campaign stressed that the two men, being members of both the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the National Council, two of the Party's highest decision-making bodies, cannot be treated as ordinary members.

"For this reason, it is wholly inadequate for the party leadership to simply dissociate itself from their reckless utterances. It has to be both condemned and sanctioned.

"We therefore recommend that the NEC and the National Council of the NPP immediately summon the two Regional Chairmen before the appropriate disciplinary bodies and processes. Such decisive action is necessary to send a clear signal that no individual, regardless of rank or status, is above the rules of our Party.

"Failure to act swiftly and decisively will only reinforce the widespread perceptions of bias and lend credibility to the dangerous narrative that there is indeed a calculated orchestration to skew the process in favour of a particular candidate," part of the statement said.

The statement added, "the integrity of our primaries and the unity of our Party cannot be left at the mercy of indiscipline and reckless commentary.

"Finally, we assure the rank and file of the NPP that Team Ken remains resolute in its commitment to a transparent, free, and fair electoral process. We have put in place a robust anti-rigging architecture to safeguard the sanctity and integrity of the upcoming primaries, and we call on all Party faithful to remain vigilant."
