Ken Agyapong can beat his Cabinet member due to his temperament - Atta Akyea

A former Minister of Works and Housing, Samuel Atta Akyea, has voiced concerns over the suitability of New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Agyapong, for the presidency.

Speaking on UTV on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, Atta Akyea cited temperament as a key issue, adding that should Agyapong emerge as the presidential candidate and go on to lead the country, he could “beat someone in Cabinet” due to his temperament.

According to him, he has no personal problem with Agyapong but questioned whether he possesses the qualities required of a national leader.

“Truth be told, I wouldn’t say I have a problem with Ken Ohene Agyapong; not one. However, being a leader requires certain qualities. I am scared of his temperament because he could beat someone in Cabinet. He is very quick tempered and I know him very well,” he said.

He added that Agyapong’s temperament caused friction even in Parliament during his time as a lawmaker.

“Even in Parliament, he was having issues with people because he was temperamental. He doesn’t understand and know how to settle issues amicably,” Atta Akyea disclosed.

The former lawmaker for Abuakwa South added that a president must have the ability to absorb shocks and manage conflicts without resorting to insults or aggression.

“… The temperament of a president is someone who have shock absorbers and not one who is ready to fight with people. Insulting behaviors isn’t befitting of a presidential material,” he argued.

Akyea contrasted Agyapong with former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who is also a presidential aspirant, highlighting competence, temperament, intellectual capacity, and vision as critical factors.

“When we combine competence, temperament, intellectual prowess and vision, Bawumia is far ahead,” he noted.
