KONADU She Is All Set To Run Against Mills

It is no longer a matter of speculation. Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, former First Lady is all set to run against President John Evans Atta Mills.

Insiders say she has informed an important organ of the party of her intention to join the contest for the presidential candidature of the party.

Already thousands of posters announcing her candidature have been pasted around the country.

Beautiful and expensive T-Shirts bearing her portrait have also been distributed.

Nana Konadu has not made any public statement announcing her intention to run for President but her supporters have been particularly loud.

Professor John Evans Atta Mills has also indicated that he intends to run for a second four-year term and his vice John Dramani Mahama has thrown his full weight behind him.

Well informed insiders told “The Insight” that Professor Mills is expected to secure a landslide victory at the party congress whose date has not been announced.

They claim that the image of Professor Mills as a sincere and honest leader coupled with his incumbency will do the trick.

However, an unscientific poll conducted by Peace FM shows that Nana Konadu is ahead of Professor Mills by a ten percentage point.

Those who are pushing the candidature of Nana Konadu claim that the time has come for Ghana to have its first woman President.

So far no heavyweight in the party has openly declared support for Nana Konadu.

Mr. Samuel Okujeto Ablakwa, Deputy Minister of Information has gone as far as saying that he will resign from Government if Professor Mills does not get the nod as the party's presidential candidate for the 2012 elections.

The Regional Chairpersons of the party have on several occasions declared support for the candidature of Professor Mills.

Other loyal supporters of Professor Mills include Mr Ato Ahwoi, Professor Kofi Awoonor, Chairman of the Council of State and Mr Ohene Agyekum, former Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party.

It is expected that in the weeks ahead many party faithfuls will openly declare their support for Professor Mills on whose record the NDC may win or lose the 2012 elections.
