K-Poly TESCON unhappy about regional party executive

Kumasi, Dec. 4, GNA - The Kumasi Polytechnic branch of the Tertiary Education Confederacy (TESCON) of the NPP has deplored the alleged interference and divisive activities of some regional executives of the party.

It said these activities were causing internal wrangling and divisions among members of the party in the constituencies. In a statement signed by Mr Samuel Larbi, branch Secretary and issued in Kumasi on Saturday, the TESCON said such "power drunk" moves of some regional executives were causing disaffection and tearing the party apart in the region.

The statement cited the Kwabre West constituency where the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Mr Yaw Amankwaa is alleged to have used his position to supervise a purported vote of no confidence in Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, constituency chairman of the party.

It said the action of the regional chairman was not only illegal and unconstitutional but also had a tendency of creating serious division in the party in the constituency.

This, according to the statement, was evident in the acrimony and hostility that characterized the said delegates' congress and the subsequent refusal and boycott by most of the polling station chairmen. The statement questioned the interest of the regional chairman in the affairs of that particular constituency while there were other constituencies in the region that were facing more serious problems than the Kwabre West.

It said the action of the regional chairman confirmed the belief that there were some external forces behind the continuous unrest in the party in that constituency.

The statement reminded leaders in the party, who had taken sides and were working with other people to sabotage some hardworking young constituency executives, to be careful since that could affect the party.

It called on the national executive and other stakeholders to go into the matter and reconcile the constituency. In a related development, a group calling itself, Concern Youth Association of the Kwabre West constituency, has called on the Ashanti Regional chairman, Mr Yaw Amankwaa, to reverse the decision to remove Odeneho Kwaku Appiah as the constituency chairman of the party.
