Spokesperson of the late Joseph Boakye Danquah Adu’s family, George Amoah, has confirmed that the former Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North constituency on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had a presidential ambition.

But this ambition was towards the future not in the interim, according to Mr Amoah.

JB Danquah Adu was assassinated in his home at Shiahsie in Accra. The final funeral rites took place over the weekend. Scores of politicians from almost all the political parties, Members of Parliament, flag bearers of political parties, the two former presidents John Kufuor and Jerry John Rawlings , the Chief Justice Theodora Georgina Wood, the Speaker of Parliament Edward Doe Adjaho, friends and several other Ghanaians attended the funeral.

Immediately he was assassinated, there were suspicion among some Ghanaians that he had a presidential ambition and was working towards it ahead of the 2020 elections, hence, some members of the NPP who felt threatened by this ambition allegedly orchestrated his assassination.

Speaking in an interview with Ekourba Gyasi, host of TOP FM’s morning show on Monday, the Spokesperson for the family, George Amoah, confirmed that indeed he had that ambition but his assassination could not be orchestrated by NPP members.

“Yes he had a presidential ambition but not now, rather in the future,” he told host Ekourba Gyasi. Adding that “although anything at all can happen in this world I don’t think members of his own party are behind his death.”

He further told Ekourba Gyasi that the Police are still investigating the matter and should be left in their hands but they are expecting that the case will travel to its logical conclusion.
