I will continue to be NPP chairman until . . . – Afoko

Paul Afoko Paul Afoko

Suspended New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman Paul Afoko says he is not in court to fight the party but to rather defend his suspension based on the constitution of the party.

This to him is because the party has not stated anywhere in its constitution that the Chairman of the party can be suspended by some National Executive Committee members of the party based on their personal interest.

Paul Afoko was suspended as the Chairman of the NPP on the 23rd of October 2015 by the National Executive Committee of the party for his disrespectful behavior towards some gurus of the party, and they also believe his style of leadership is against Nana Addo’s victory in 2016.

According to him, members of the party accused him of being part of former President Kufuor’s faction.

He said his main goal for the NPP was to get Nana Addo the Presidency in the upcoming election.

In a one-on-one exclusive interview with UTV on ‘Adekye Nsroma’, Mr. Afoko pointed out that “Factionalism would still remain with the NPP until leaders of the party make democracy a key approach of sharing ideas, because there would be no locus for a party to win power when leaders of the party hate each other based on individual views shared. This has gone to the extent of breaking communication barrier among party leaders which is very bad for the party.”

He added that “What disturbs me more as the Chairman of the NPP is the way some leaders are being suspended and sacked from the party just because they shared a separate view on an issue discussed. Indeed this behavior by some party executives to me is like ‘madness’.”

“I will continue to be the Chairman of the NPP until the over 5,200 people who voted me as Chairman of the party on 13th April 2014 at Tamale again vote me out of power,” he said.

“Problems in the NPP as at now still holds unsolved and would continue to be so until Executives of the of the party work in line with the party’s constitution," he bitterly lamented.
