Majority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has refuted allegations that President John Dramani Mahama used a private jet for his recent official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Speaking on the Floor of Parliament on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, Dr. Ato Forson stated that he personally accompanied the president on the trip and confirmed that they traveled on a commercial Emirates flight.

“I travelled with President Mahama on his recent trip to the UAE, and he didn’t use a private jet. I was on the flight with him, and we used Emirates,” he stated.

The Majority Leader further challenged former Minister of Defence, Dominic Nitiwul, who raised concerns about the president's choice of travel arrangements, to provide evidence to challenge his claims.

"Mr. Speaker, the immediate past defence minister claimed that the president used a rented private jet, and I challenge him to bring evidence now,” he remarked.

Dominic Nitiwul, in raising the issue, expressed concerns over President John Dramani Mahama's decision not to use the presidential jet for international duties, arguing that the aircraft is in good condition and should be utilised, instead of opting for commercial or private flights.

This rebuttal comes after a communication to Parliament that informed the House of President Mahama's travel to the UAE for official duties.
