Disqualified NDC Parliamentary aspirant for the Asawase constituency, Masawudu Mubarick has denied inciting Thursday’s riots allegedly caused by his followers.

Mubarick who was disqualified by the largest opposition party from contesting the incumbent Muntaka Mubarak claimed he has no hand in the mayhem that happened and the simmering tension in the enclave.

Angry supporters of opposition NDC aspiring Parliamentary Candidate for Asawase Masawudu Mubarick Thursday morning stormed the party’s Ashanti Regional office to cause mayhem in protest of the party’s decision to disqualify their candidate.

They set tyres ablaze and tried to vandalize party property after the party declared incumbent Member of Parliament for Asawase constituency Muntaka Mubarak as unopposed candidate for the 2020 Parliamentary election.

But Masawudu Mubarick has said in an interview with Accra-based Citi Fm that he’s been in touch with the protesters to remain calm.

“I called to discourage them from proceeding further. As I speak with you now I’m currently engaging the Regional Commander of the Ghana Police Service in the Ashanti Region on how we can together work to let peace prevail.”
