School activities should respond to community's needs

Nkawie (Ash), Sept 26, GNA- Mr Gilbert Abebrese, an Assistant Director of Education in-charge of training at Atwima district education office, has asked teachers to programme and articulate their activities to respond to the educational needs of their communities.

School activities, he said, should be relevant and also correspond to the set educational objectives to achieve maximum performance.

Mr Abebrese was speaking at the closing ceremony of a six-day workshop on literacy, problem solving and preparation of teaching and learning materials organised by the Atwima district education directorate for 155 teachers at Nkawie in Ashanti.

Sponsored by the British Department for International Development (DFID) under the Whole School Development (WSD) programme, about 1,000 primary school teachers have been trained in the district.

Mr Abebrese asked teachers to create much awareness in the communities to increase parental support for their children's education.

Mr Baffour Asare Bediako, an Assistant Director of Education in-charge of Human Resource Management and Development asked school communities to provide infrastructure facilities for the schools.
