The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that a parliamentary election rerun will take place on Friday, July 11, 2025, at 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency.
This decision follows weeks of deadlock between the two major political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), regarding the validity of the constituency’s election results.
In a statement issued on July 2, 2025, the EC explained that the rerun was agreed upon after extensive consultations and a thorough review of the electoral process in the affected areas.
According to the Commission, the rerun is necessary because, although scanned results from the 19 polling stations were approved by party agents, they were not verified by the respective Presiding Officers, as required by electoral procedures.
The rerun will cover 19 of the 37 polling stations in the constituency. The results from the remaining 18 polling stations, which were not affected by the dispute, remain valid.
The rerun comes after months of disagreement over unverified pink sheets, which delayed the declaration of results from the 2024 general elections.
