Group calls on President to maintain Dr Anane

Kumasi, Sept. 21, GNA 96 The Patriotic Youth of Ghana (PYG) has appealed to President Kufuor to maintain Dr Richard Anane, Minister for Transportation to continue with his good work of developing the transport system in the country.

In a statement jointly signed by Mr Oheneba Edmund Kwarteng and Nana Agyenim-Boateng, Chairman and Secretary respectively and issued in Kumasi on Thursday, the PYG said it had noted with deep concern the report of CHRAJ on Dr Anane in the media and has expressed support for his quest to contest the findings in Court.

The group said since his appointment as the Minister for Transportation, Dr Anane had initiated projects and programmes that were helping to transform the sector and there was the need for all well-meaning Ghanaians to weigh the enormous contributions and achievements of the Minister as against 93a trivial allegation involving his personal relationship with a lady=94. According to the statement, Dr Anane had demonstrated beyond all reasonable doubts that his ability to deliver as a Minister was on course and mentioned the numerous road construction works which were currently going on throughout the country, the introduction of the Metro Mass Transit, rehabilitation of feeder roads and others, as some of the achievements of the Minister.

The statement said since no corruption charges were established by CHRAJ against the Minister, there was no need for the President to remove him on allegations involving his personal life. =93As a nation in search of progress and development, should we sacrifice people who are hard working, devoted and committed to the country's development effort, for unnecessary issues involving individual personal life, which brought no loss to the state?=94 the statement asked.

It appealed to the President not to heed to pressure from individuals and groups who had sinister agenda against the Minister and the government in general, adding, most of 93these people may have been found wanting if they are also to be investigated=94. 21 Sept. 06
