Ghanaians in no mood to change govt now - Aliu

Kadjebi, Nov. 25, GNA - Vice President Aliu Mahama on Wednesday said Ghanaians had demonstrated enough goodwill towards the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Administration to indicate that they were in no hurry to replace it with a different regime.

"Ghanaians are not in the mood to change the Government now," he stressed.

The Vice President was addressing separate durbars of chiefs and people at Sibi-Hilltop, Nkwanta, Breweniase and Poase-Cement in the Nkwanta and Kadjebi Districts as part of his three-day electioneering campaign tour of the northern part of the Volta Region.

He said the intense pressure and discontent with the performance of the government that heralded the 2000 Election in which the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government was dethroned was absent in this year's electioneering campaign.

Vice President Mahama said this was an attestation that the NPP Government had delivered on its campaign promises, with the people yearning for another four-year term for it.

He said the first term was used to build the foundation for rapid economic development, as the "Government will come back doing even better".

Vice President Mahama said political opponents, realising that they had no credible messages; had resorted to deceit and misinformation, stating: "The truth is sacred" and would rise above falsehood.

Mr Kwasi Owusu-Yeboa, Volta Regional Minister, urged the electorate to ignore the "sankofa" slogan of the NDC, as that era was plagued with terror and mismanagement.

He entreated the electorate to vote for continuity, accelerated development and freedom.

The traditional authorities of the various towns pledged their unflinching support for the Government, saying they had seen development projects that had raised the living standards of their people. They also prayed for a peaceful electioneering campaign and elections.
