Ghana@59: CCG calls for collective responsibility for peace

The Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) has congratulated Ghanaians on the occasion of the 59th Independence Day celebration of the country with a passionate call for a collective responsibility towards peace and nation building.

According to the Council, God has been good to Ghana for the past 59 years, and Ghanaians must express appreciation to God, and unite for peace and development.

Rev. Dr. Opuni-Frimpong, General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, made these comments on-behalf of the Council at a prayer session with staff of the Christian Council of Ghana in Accra last Friday to commemorate the Independence Day.

“Ghana has had both good and bad moments as a nation. However, we must congratulate ourselves as a people, and come together to develop our country. At this point in our national life, we must burry whatever divides us and forge ahead as one people in pursuit of peace and sustainable growth” he stated.

He continued that “every Ghanaian has a moral responsibility towards the peace and development of the country. As citizens of this country, we must be determined and committed to the peace and growth of this country. This should inspire us to contribute to national efforts towards sustainable development”.

Rev Opuni-Frimpong said, inspite of the many challenges confronting the nation at 59 years, Ghanaians must take collective responsibility of the future of the nation and develop national cohesion that will spur growth.

He further urged institutions with the mandate of sustaining the peace and development of this country not to do anything that has the potential of causing tension and violence.

“Our state institutions and their leaders must also be proactive, non-partisan and work in the supreme interest of the country. State institutions must not act in any manner that can trigger public distrust and tensions”, he emphasised.

The CCG chief scribe further indicated that, the future of Ghana is the collective responsibility of every Ghanaian, and it can only be better if Ghanaians commit themselves to peace, unity, honesty, discipline and self-belief.

He further assured the nation of the Council’s continuous efforts in the promotion of peace, unity and development.

Rev. Opuni-Frimpong appealed to churches to use available platforms to promote peaceful elections, unity and morality ahead of the November polls.
