Free Senior High School is untenable in Ghana- VOJA

Mr. Selassie Nyadzi, National Coordinator of the Vote John Again 2012 Network (VOJA) on Wednesday said the campaign of the New Patriotic Party to provide free education at the Senior High School level was untenable.

“We believe that this is just a mere political gimmick to feed the property owning democracy of the NPP. They intend to destroy the public SHS system, privatize it and allow their cronies to take charge like they did to Ghana Airways.”

Mr. Nyadzi said this during a media interaction to outline their vision towards the forthcoming general election in December this year.

The VOJA believe that this year’s elections would be won by another John and that, the group would among other things, embark on a door-to-door campaigns throughout the country to educate the electorate on the performance of the National Democratic Congress for them to maintain the party in power.

“As history and fate has it, Ghana’s fourth republic has been led by the Johns who have positively turned this country around. One can talk of John Rawlings, John Kufuor and John Mills and are confident another John will continue.”

Mr. Nyadzi accused the NPP government of collapsing and shredding Ghana Airways, adding that, their intention to make the SHS free was geared towards privatizing all the public schools to provide an opportunity for cronies and party members to enrich themselves overnight.

The National VOJA Coordinator said the NDC believed in basic education as the bedrock of education in the country, hence the mass elimination of schools under trees throughout the country and ‘not the political gimmick of making SHS free in the country.”

He said the NDC under the late President Mills had redeemed their pledge of establishing two universities in the Volta and Brong Ahafo Regions, and gave the assurance that given another chance under President Mahama, government would do more to ameliorate the plight of Ghanaians in the coming years.

“We wish to assure his Excellency that we shall go to every part of this country to tell Ghanaians the good news of the NDC Better Ghana Agenda because we believe that the lies of the NPP must not be made to stand,’ the statement concluded.
