Fear Grips Minority!

As NDC Puts In Place No-Nonsense Parliamentary Leadership …

Fear Grips Bellicose, Whimsical & Capricious Minority!

Maxwell Okamafo Addo

Bellicose, Whimsical and Capricious Osei Kyei-Mensah Bonsu and his irresponsible Minority in Parliament, having spent 2009 salivating at the thought of going scot-free with their gangsterism, are waking up to the realization that the race is not for the swiftest but for the sturdiest.

His Excellency President Atta Mills has made a major re-alignment of the human resource structure he believes will help him execute his Better Ghana agenda, and the NDC Leadership in Parliament has moved into Executive position.
As things stand now, and from the plethora of media reports, it is looking likely that NDC MP for Zebilla, Hon Cletus Avoka, will take over as Leader of the Majority and Leader of the House.
It is this likely entry of Mr. Avoka as Majority Leader, that has sent shivers down the spine of Osei Kyei-Mensah Bonsu, Ambrose Derry, Opare Ansah, and their highly irresponsible colleagues who have succeeded in reducing the importance of Parliament.
In people like Isaac Essiama, NPP MP for Atwima Mponoa, you have MPs whose contributions on the floor of the House are farcical and outright infantile.
When an MP’s only contribution on the floor of the House in a whole year, is to ask the President to re-swear his oath of office because of a minor slip, it tells you the configuration of the brain cells of such a character.
The morbid fear that has gripped Kyei Mensah and his irresponsible lot, is out of the general knowledge that Hon Avoka is a no-nonsense character who will not allow Kyei Mensah-Bonsu and co to get away with their bellicose, whimsical and capricious ways.
Speaking to this paper, some friends on the side of the Minority have expressed their worry over the exit of Bagbin and the entry of Avoka because the latter is most likely not to compromise on the unacceptable conduct of the Minority.
“We know Avoka to be thoroughbred PNDC/NDC politician and if his PNDC antecedents are anything to go by, then we are in trouble” was how one NPP MP put it.
“Honestly speaking, we were very comfortable with Bagbin and co and are really confused as to how to worm our way into the books of Avoka” another NPP MP said.
“Even though I know Avoka and find him to be a fine gentleman and an affable person, I am not too sure the extent to which he will compromise on NDC matters and that is where those of us in the NPP are worried that the NDC is going to take on a new character which will give us a run for our money” a third NPP MP added.
On the NDC side of the divide, in spite of some scattered voices that are sounding worried over the departure of Bagbin and co, most MPs spoken to are in sync with the change in the Leadership of the Majority.
According to the NDC MPs, they were getting extremely frustrated with certain goings-on and would not have hesitated to revolt on the floor of the House if the change had not come.
“We are very happy that we are going to have a lot of fresh air blowing through our Leadership structure” said an NDC MP.
“Especially for us the new ones, who have a lot of fire in our belly, we were becoming extremely frustrated with the way things were going and as far as we are concerned, our prayers have been answered” another NDC MP said.
To all intents and purposes, it is very much hoped that the realignment and reassignment that has taken place, will inject more energy into President John Evans Atta Mills’ Team, and move the Government in the right and proper direction towards building a Better Ghana.
The Hon Cletus Avoka, was three-time MP for the Zebilla Constituency, lost his seat to the PNC’s John Ndebugre in 2004, before winning it back in 2008.
