False-Nails Ladies Denied Registration

In spite of the repeated appeals by the Electoral Commission (EC) for ladies wearing artificial finger nails to have them manicured before the commencement of the voters registration exercise, which began last Tuesday, March 16, many of the ladies have not heeded to the advice.

This situation has led many of them to go home disappointed and with being registered. A case in point was at the James Town Police Station registration centre, in the Odododiodio constituency, where quite a number of such ladies were asked to remove their false nails before applying the indelible ink on the nails.

While some of them removed their nails without hesitation, others were reluctant to do so, and were, therefore, asked to go back home and returned when they were ready to comply with the directives of EC.

In an interview with a registration officer, Mr Nicholas Francis Okletey indicated that he asked the ladies wearing the false nails to remove them, because there was the likelihood that those ladies might remove the nails after registering at the centres, and make another attempt elsewhere, later. In the case of those who had applied nail polish not long, he hinted that they were offered razor blades to expunge their nail polish before applying the indelible ink on their nails.

When questioned further why the punishment of those wearing nail polish, he mentioned that even though they just would not apply the indelible ink on their nails, they wanted to instill discipline in the ladies.
