Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, Ewurabena Aubynn, has spoken against the attack on the former MP for Awutu Senya East Constituency, Mavis Hawa Koomson during the Ablekuma North election rerun on July 11, 2025.

Hawa Koomson was attacked by unidentified attackers who forcibly entered the Odorkor Methodist 1 polling station during the voting process in Ablekuma North.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and police investigations are currently underway.

In a television interview on TV3 New Day, on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, Ewurabena Aubynn expressed her strong disapproval of the assault on Hawa Koomson, emphasising that violence during elections should not be tolerated.

She believes that such undemocratic acts must not be accepted, regardless of political affiliation.

“I think it shouldn’t happen to anyone regardless. Male, female, opposition or not; I mean it shouldn’t happen…I join the many voices to condemn it outrightly. I think we should be able to conduct elections devoid of violence,” she stated.

The lawmaker swiftly dismissed the idea that the attack in Ablekuma North was carried out by members of the NDC.

She suggested that it might be a reprisal attack, suggesting that it could have potentially been orchestrated by some members of the New Patriotic Party(NPP).

“However, it didn’t happen in Ablekuma North because the people in Ablekuma North decided to attack her. I think there is some history behind all of that. I am quite worried that Ablekuma North is being projected that she came to Ablekuma North and she got attacked.

“The attack did happen in Ablekuma North, but it wasn’t from the constituents. I may be wrong but I am tempted to believe that it was from her own party? It could probably be from their own party; you can never tell. What shows the men who attacked her are members of the, it could be anybody but regardless it shouldn’t happen,” she emphasised.

The Greater Accra Regional Police Command subsequently, arrested two suspects in connection with the violent incidents that took place at the Ablekumah North elections.

The suspects have been identified as Musah Muntari, a 46-year-old Station Manager at STC, and Ali Saeed known as Mboma, and a 43-year-old businessman.

Both individuals are currently assisting with investigations.

Ewurabena Aubynn won the keenly contested Ablekuma North elections with a total of 34,090 votes to oust her contender, Nana Akua Afriyie of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The declaration of her victory came after a re-run of the election held in 19 polling stations where over 6, 000 eligible voters were expected to cast their ballots.

This re-run became necessary after a disagreement erupted between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) regarding discrepancies in the results from 37 polling stations.

After prolonged discussions, the Electoral Commissions (EC) decided to conduct a re-run in 19 of the 37 contested polling stations.

The NPP protested this decision and filed an application for an injunction in the High Court.

However, the injunction was dismissed, allowing the election to proceed as planned.
