Enthusiastic NDC fans give Mills rousing welcome to Winneba

Winneba (C/R), Aug. 27, GNA - A large crowd of enthusiastic National Democratic Congress (NDC) fans, welcoming the Party's Flagbearer Professor John Atta Mills to the Effutu constituency, on Tuesday swamped the town roads of Winneba, resulting in traffic congestion that lasted for about 40 minutes.

Dressed in NDC colours and dancing to brass band music and Asafo drums, the fans gave Prof Mills and his entourage a red carpet reception up to the main Accra lorry terminal in Winneba where he addressed them.

Among Prof Mills' entourage were Mr. Ato Ahwoi, a leading member of the campaign team; Mr Valis Achianu, Central Regional Chairman of the NDC; Mr. Kofi Mintah, Central Region Disciplinary Committee Chairman; Mr Mahama Ayariga, MP for Bawku Central and Madam Ama Benyiwa-Doe, National Women's Organiser of the Party.

In his address, Prof. Mills said when voted to power, he would unite the nation and urged Ghanaians to turn out massively on December seven to vote for the NDC, adding that the NPP had failed to effectively manage the affairs of the country.

He cautioned the people not to sit down for politicians, "who have nothing better to offer" to influence them with money for their votes. He advised members of the NDC to undertake clean and peaceful campaign and not to destroy posters of political opponents.

Prof. Mills also interacted with commercial drivers and traders at Winneba Junction and Effutu Ateitu, where he asked the people to vote for him for a better Ghana.

He later introduced Mr. Mike Allan Hammah, the Party's parliamentary hopeful for the area, to the crowd.

Mr. Hammah, a onetime MP for the area, said when given the mandate, he would continue with development projects in the area.

Professor Mills and his entourage paid courtesy calls on the Omanhene of Effutu Traditional Area, Neenyi Ghartey VII and Zongo Chief Saliche Sulemanu Saliga at their various places.

The two leaders respectively advised supporters of political parties to undertake their campaign devoid of insults so as not to disturb the peaceful atmosphere of the country.

Nana Obosu II, Odikro of Ateitu, appealed to the Electoral Commission to do its best to ensure that the December elections are conducted in a free and fair manner.
