Ensure free, fair and transparent election - EC urged

Agona Swedru, March 24, GNA - The Right Reverend Moses Archer, President of the Sacred Action Church, has appealed to the Electoral Commission and other state institutions to ensure a clean, fair and transparent general election to consolidate democracy. He said election fraud could spark off violence and chaos that could erode the micro economic stability the nation had enjoyed in the past seven years and this would create economic hardship for the people. Rt. Rev. Archer said this at a four-day Easter Convention of the Church at Agona Swedru in the Central Region. He urged Ghanaians to make the country peaceful to promote socio-economic advancement.

Rt. Rev. Archer said the election would be won by one political party and asked the other parties to accept the results in good faith. He stressed the need for all to conduct their campaign on issues instead of tarnishing the image of their opponents through ridicule and insults that would not bring peace and harmony. Rt. Rev. Archer said God had already chosen the person who would rule the country and appealed to supporters of political parties to desist from acts that would create problems for the country. Rev Ackah Cobbina, Deputy General Secretary of the Church, said the Youth Ministry of the church had embarked on a programme to educate the public on the policies and programmes of the state such as HIV/AIDS and the National Health Insurance Scheme.
