Accra, Dec 21, GNA - Mr Ishmael Ashitey, former Member of Parliament for Tema East vying for the position of Greater Accra Chairmanship of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has promised not to turn his back on members whenever crisis emerge in the party at any of the constituencies.

"In every human institution one is bound to face some factors such as the management of resources, the management of human capital and crisis that would crop up; it is the ability to handle those crises that makes one a good leader," he said.

He made these remarks when he organized a get-to-gather for the constituency executives and members of the party to outline his vision for the Region.

Mr Ashitey, a Mechanical Engineer, said he had been tried, tested and proved equal to the task, and that he would investigate why the party lost many seats in the Region during the last election. He also assured members that with his quality leadership when given the ch ance, he would regain the lost seats for the party in the 2012 elections. He said he had identified two areas, the building of confidence between Ga-Adagme, the fisher-folks and the party which greatly affected the party's fortunes in the 2008 elections.

The former MP promised to interact with the people, and make them a part of the process, pointing out that this would go a long way to eliminate the incidence of fence-sitting on the part of some party members. Mr Ashitey pledged that if given the mandate, he would professionalize the operations of the foot soldiers by developing an active data base to monitor their track records and accordingly reward them for their services to the party.
