Eastern Regional NCCE expresses worry at accusations by Political Parties

The Eastern Regional Secretariat of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has expressed worry at accusations and counter accusations in the media by some political parties over the on-going Biometric Registration in the area.

The NCCE wish to draw the attention of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to the fact that all political parties are part of the Inter-Party Dialogue Committees (IPDCs), which are platforms for handling all complaints and concerns such as registration malpractices at the Regional, District and Constituency levels.

This was contained in a statement issued in Koforidua on Wednesday and signed by Mr Eric Bortey, Regional Director of the NCCE, and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA).

It said the IPDCs would only work when political parties approach them with their concerns.

“The IPDCs will however remain decorative pieces and therefore, dormant if the stakeholders like the political parties fail to engage them to perform their functions as election-related dispute resolution bodies”.

The statement noted that accusations in the media would not resolve any problems on the ground rather they would escalate them, leading to political violence.

It therefore urged all political parties to kindly lodge their complaints with the IPDCs for timely and amicable settlement of all issues of concern to them.**
