Don't let opponents penetrate and divide your ranks - Prof. Mills

Tamale, Sept. 26, GNA - Professor John Evans Atta Mills, Flag bearer of National Democratic Congress (NDC) has advised members of the party not to allow opponents of the NDC to use any subtle means to penetrate and break the unity within the party. He said their opponents had measured and seen the unbeatable strength of the NDC and were using various means to use "NDC to fight NDC" particularly in the Northern Region where other parties cannot measure up their strengths to equal the popularity of the "winsome NDC" in 2008 elections.

Professor Mills gave the advice in Tamale on Tuesday when he met NDC Northern Regional Executives and Executives of Tamale North, Tamale South and Tamale Central constituencies and some party supporters. The meeting was to address pertinent issues concerning the party in the region and to urge members not to relent on their efforts to work harder and galvanize more support for the NDC to win the 2008 elections with ease.

"Let our opponents fight us but don't allow them to use us to champion their agenda. We have persevered in opposition for seven years and now that we are winning power you should not loose your guard," he said.

Professor Mills called for unity in the party and advised members to avoid acts that would run the NDC down, reduce its strength and popularity and advised them to be part of the winners in 2008.

He specifically mentioned propaganda machinery in the Tamale North, South and Central constituencies where efforts were being made to run down the hard working Parliamentarians, Alhaji Abubakri Sumani, Mr Haruna Iddrisu and Mr Inusah Fuseini.

Professor Mills described the three Tamale Parliamentarians as some of the best in Parliament and "if I have my way no one would contest them in next year's Parliamentary elections".

He warned members of the party against negative stories about the party from Accra that were not true saying "those in Accra are united and do not indulge in acts that would divide the party".

Professor Mills called on the Northern Regional Executive of the party to be more active, vigilant and take disciplinary measures on supporters who would not be in line with the party's constitution and regulations.

He paid a courtesy call on the new leader of Ambariyya mosque, Sheikh Zakaria Saaid and urged him to use his office to pray to Allah for continued peace in Dagbon and Ghana for a peaceful election in 2008.
