Don't foment trouble - MP aspirant advises youth

Parliamentary candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in North Tongu constituency of the Volta region, Mr. Richard Collins Arku, has admonished the youth in the area to reject any attempt(s) by groups or individuals to use them to cause chaos before, during and after the November 7, 2016 General Elections.

That, according to him, was because self-seeking individuals and their partners who goad the youth into fomenting trouble always shield their own children and relatives from troubles.

Instead, he encouraged the youth to take their education seriously, charging them that this was the only way they could assure themselves of a better and rewarding future.

Mr. Arku gave the admonition at Mepe at a youth forum organised by the Local Council of Churches in North Tongu District to deliberate on some local and national issues.

The forum, which was on theme; “Arise Youth of Christ; Serve to be Served,” was attended by members of various youth groups, political parties, traditional rulers, religious groupings and a cross-section of the public.

Mr. Arku, who was the guest speaker at the programme, made his introductory remarks by advising the youth, to put Jesus Christ as the central pillar in every endeavour of their lives.

The young outspoken politician urged the youth to always channel their energies into productive ventures which would promote national progress.

He further advised leaders of the various political parties and their followers to refrain from using untoward and unguarded statements in their campaigns, since such remarks have the tendency of inflaming passions which could eventually plunge the nation into chaos.

Mr. Arku stressed that Ghana was bigger and more important than any organisation, hence any political party that would use threats and intimidation in its campaign should be rejected by the electorate.

He schooled the participants on some secrets for excellence in leadership, assuring them that, when he is elected to become Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, he would give attention to the youth so they can take advantage of it to make their importance felt in all facets of national life.

Mr. Arku shared his stories by way of recounting how he had to trek from Volo Traditional Area to Battor-Aveyime every single day during his days at the Aveyime Senior Secondary School.

He used his personal life history as a case study, considering the tribulations he had to go through as a youth before becoming who he is today.

For their part, the youth indicated their unflinching support for Mr. Arku in the November 7 polls.

According to them, they can no longer allow the incumbent MP for the area, Mr. Samuel Okudzeto-Ablakwa, who is the candidate for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), to represent the constituency in Parliament for the second time.

They stated that Mr. Okudzeto’s contribution to the constituency was insignificant considering his position as a deputy Minister in charge of Tertiary Education.

The youth described Mr. Arku, who has MBA in finance, as the grassroots man, affable, a unifier and knowledgeable and who has the technical know-how to transform the constituency.
