Don’t consider me for running mate - Paul Adom-Otchere

Television presenter-cum-broadcast journalist, Paul Adom-Otchere, has asked the People’s National Convention [PNC] not to consider him for the party’s vice presidential candidature.

Party chairman, Bernard Mornah, disclosed to TV3 Monday that the PNC was considering Mr Adom-Otchere, as a possible partner for the party’s presidential candidate Dr Edward Mahama, who is making his fifth attempt at Ghana’s presidency. “If you look at Paul, he’s versatile, he appears to know the subjects that he treats very well; whether they are in economics, they’re in security, they’re in any field. He has handled considerable topics in this country and has shown enough depth in those areas,” Mr Mornah said.

Some Ghanaians took to Mr Adom-Otchere’s Facebook wall to congratulate him, but he immediately released a statement on Facebook to reject what could be described as the offer by the PNC.

“I am not to be considered for the running mate of the PNC because I’m not a member of the PNC,” Mr Adom-Otchere said.

Mr Adom-Otchere explained he had an interview with Dr Mahama on Good Evening Ghana on Metro TV during which he “jokingly offered himself for the position” when the issue of PNC’s running mate came up. This is what transpired in that interview:

Paul: Have you chosen your running mate yet?

Dr. Mahama: No

Paul: Have you thought about me?

Dr. Mahama: No. I have actually thought about a journalist but it’s not you

Paul: Can you think about me please?

Dr. Mahama: We’ll talk about that later

Meanwhile, he said in the statement: “I’m excited that Dr. Edward Mahama is back to the playing field of the political process because he offers real food for thought”.
