Delle to settle Samia bribery claim

The national chairman of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Professor Edmond Delle, has said he is willing to meet failed presidential aspirant, Samia Yaba Nkrumah, to iron out any grievances she harbours in the aftermath of the party’s presidential primary.

“Rest assured that I will go there and talk to her if there is something still burning,” he indicated.

Professor Delle had threatened to deal ‘drastically’ with Samia Nkrumah after she alleged that CPP presidential candidate for the 2016 elections, Ivor Kobina Greenstreet, won the primary through vote-buying.

She claimed that the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) sponsored Mr Greenstreet’s flagbeareship bid. Her comments angered the national chairman, who threatened to deal with her if she failed to retract those allegations and render an apology to the party and the flagbearer.

The matter was recently raised again by a member of the Council of Elders of the CPP, Lucy Anin, who said she was disappointed at the manner Professor Delle and his executive committee had handled the matter and believed the chairman had been unfair to Kwame Nkrumah’s daughter.

In an article dated 7th April, 2016, the veteran politician felt Professor Delle should have investigated Ms Nkrumah’s claims rather than castigating the former chairperson of the party for exposing corruption

Responding to the issue on the Executive Breakfast Show on Class91.3 FM, Friday April 22, Professor Delle said the party would investigate the allegations if a formal complaint was lodged with evidence.

He, however, indicated that he would take steps to meet Ms Nkrumah to address the situation for unity to prevail in the party and channel all efforts towards the November 7 presidential and parliamentary polls.

“I will go and see Samia, I have worked comfortably with her and she was one of the people, who wanted me to come back and be chairman of the party. As soon as you are defeated, you need to allow some time for people’s tempers to calm down. … I have instructed one of the council members to talk to her in addition to other respectable members of the party to talk to her and I thought the matter had been settled, but I will see to it that it is resolved,” he stated.
