DFP will not join NDC - Alhaji Issakaba

Agona Duakwa(C/R), Sept. 24, GNA - The Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) will never join the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in spite of approaches by the top hierarchy of the latter to do so, Alhaji Abdul Rahaman Issakaba, National Chairman of the DFP has stated. No amount of words from the top brass of the NDC can change the position of the DFP to join them, Alhaji Issakaba, stated at the first Regional Working Committee meeting at Agona Duakwa in the Central Region.
He described the Region as "a fertile ground" for the DFP to win more followers from mass defection of members from both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the NDC.
The National Chairman noted that the mass defections of people from the two leading parties was a clear indication that the Region, which fell to the NPP in the 2004 general election would sway to the DFP in the 2008 polls.
Alhaji Issakaba commended the over thousand party members and supporters who thronged the meeting for 12 people turning it into "a mini rally".
He said the DFP was the "Third Force" in the country's politics, which should attract the grassroots and disillusioned supporters of the NPP, NDC and the other parties since its leadership would not "sit in Accra and decide for the masses as is the case with some parties". The DFP Chairman pointed out that the rift between the Dr Yao Obed Asamoah, a leading member of the party and Former President J J Rawlings was compounded at the NDC National Congress at Koforidua. Mr Kofi Asante, General Secretary of the DFP, stressed that the need to consolidate democracy to ensure peace and stability needed to enhance the standard of living of the people.
He said the party was different from other ones, adding that, it was the hope of the DFP to leave a legacy worthy of emulation for the country's future leaders.
Mr John Ameka, Deputy General Secretary and former General Secretary of the Great Consolidated Peoples Party (GCPP), pointed out that the doors of the DFP were wide open to members of both, the NPP, NDC and other parties.
"Even the former President is welcome if only he would change his attitude towards democratic governance of the country," he stated. Mr Yaw Nyarko, Regional Organiser of the DFP who resigned as the Agona West Constituency Organiser of the NDC, advised the people to support the party to win the 2008 elections. The National Executive of the DFP had earlier paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Agona Duakwa, Nana Amoakwa Boadu V, who advised them to strive to ensure the country's development in peace and stability. 24 Sept. 06
