Court nullified KEEA, NPP Constituency election results

Cape Coast Aug. 7, GNA-A circuit court in Cape Coast on Friday granted a motion filed nullifying the Komenda -Edina-Eguafo-Abream (KEEA) New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency executive elections held in December 2009.

The Motion which was jointly filed by Messer's Ebenezer Agyeman Kessie, George Eduafo, Ebenezer Obeng and Sylvester Gyaban pleaded the court to nullify the elections which were not supervised by the Electoral Commission, regional and national executives of the party as stipulated in the Party's constitution.

The court presided over by Mr. Richard Asiedu-Badu ordered that the defendants; Messer's Nana Appiah Korang, Ken Kuffuor, Kojo Ketechie, Andrews Essuman Prah and Matthew Andoh, who were not in court not to hold themselves as the KEEA, NPP Constituency executives since they failed to follow the proper procedure in the constituency elections.

Mr. Kofi Lamptey, counsel for the Plaintiffs, pleaded with the court to nullify the elections since the defendants did not follow the proper legal procedure on the elections.

He also pleaded for an interim injunction on the defendants from holding themselves as the KEEA constituency executives.

The counsel explained that the Electoral Commission and the national executive of the party boycotted the elections but the defendants went ahead to conduct their own elections thereby not complying with the terms of the party's constitution.

Mr. Lamptey further explained that the plaintiffs who had paid their filing fees were not present when the defendants conducted the said elections.
