Coronavirus has made our argument against new voters register cogent - Bismark

The Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bismark Aborbi-Ayitey says the emergence of coronavirus made their argument against the compilation of a new voters' register more 'cogent'.

The opposition NDC started fighting the Electoral Commission after it decided to compile a new register.

According to the EC, the existing register is bloated.

However, the NDC insists there is nothing wrong with the old register and that it is expensive to compile a new one. This was before Ghana recorded its first case.

It's been months since Ghana recorded its first case and even though cases are still rising, the EC is still going ahead with its decision to change the register; this the NDC doesn't understand.

Their new reason for opposing the register is that cases keep increasing and the likelihood for Ghanaians to get infected should the exercise go on is high.

Speaking on The Platform programme on Peace FM, Bismark Aborbi-Ayitey said the NDC is not using COVID-19 as an excuse.

"God knows what is best for his children . . . we didn't pray for the virus to come but its emergence has made our argument more cogent," he said.
