Controversy over New Edubiase NPP primaries

New Edubiase (Ash), July 5, GNA - Controversy is raging within the New Edubiase constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the decision by Mr Justice Asafo-Adjei, Special Assistant to the General Secretary of the party, to contest the parliamentary primary of the party in the constituency.

Constituency executives and polling station chairmen are outraged by Mr Asafo-Adjei's attempt to use his influence to impose himself on the constituency.

They said Mr Asafo-Adjei does not only hail from the area and is not a registered voter in the constituency.

Mr Adansi Gyimah, NPP polling station chairman for Adansi-Apagya, who raised the concerns of the executives in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at New Edubiase, said any attempt to impose Mr Asafo-Adjei on the constituency could spell another doom for the party in the 2008 parliamentary elections.

Mr Gyimah said the NPP government had done a lot in terms of infrastructure development to improve the lives of the people in the constituency and there was the need to nominate a qualified and a good candidate to wrestle the seat from the NDC.

Mr Asafo-Adjei admitted that he was not a registered voter in the constituency but he is citizen of New Edubiase and was ready to transfer his vote to the constituency.

Mr Asafo-Adjei denied that he was trying to use his influence to impose himself on the constituency and said he was contesting the primaries and if elected would win the seat for the NPP in the 2008 elections.
