Carl Nii Taiko Tagoe has been declared the Assemblyman for the newly created Osudoku South Electoral Area in the District Level Elections held on Tuesday.

According to certified results from the Electoral Commission, Taiko Tagoe romped home with 577 votes as against his contender, Henry Franklin Sonne, who pulled 446 votes.

Out of the 1,061 total votes, electoral officers rejected 18 of the ballots.

Speaking to GhanaWeb, the Deputy Returning Officer of the Electoral Commission, Henry Daniels, said voter turnout was quite encouraging since it was a newly created Electoral Area.

Nii Taiko Tagoe in his acceptance speech, promised to ensure well-built and complete social amenities so as to improve quality of life and the development of the area.

He further pledged to improve the security architecture of the community by providing streetlights and forming watchdog committees to clampdown on the activities of hoodlums.

In fulfilment of the demands of article 242(1) of the 1992 constitution, the Electoral Commission held Local Level Elections to elect Unit Committee Members and Assemblymen to serve in the various MMDAs.

Reports gathered by GhanaWeb indicate what has been a very successful exercise nationwide, even though voter turnout was low.
