Cape Coast, June 7, GNA- Mr Emmanuel Kwaku Sagoe, a 62 year old retired Marketing and Publicity Officer of the Regional Maritime University (RMU), was on Saturday acclaimed the Convention People's Party (CPP) parliamentary candidate for the Cape Coast constituency in the December elections.

At the end of the filing of nominations, Mr Sagoe was the only one who had filed to contest.

Officials of the Electoral Commission (EC) led by the Metropolitan Electoral Officer, Mr Anthony Kwame Nyame, supervised the endorsement at the party's regional office in Cape coast and declared him as the duly elected candidate. .

Mr Sagoe, who is contesting on the ticket of the CPP for the first time, commended the delegates and party executive for the confidence reposed in him and promised to work with them to ensure that the party wins the seat.

He said the Cape Coast seat was once for the CPP and that he would do everything in his capacity to gain back the seat for the party. Mr Sagoe said he believed in the ideology of Dr Nkrumah and that his vision is to create more jobs for the youth in his constituency, stressing that many of the youth were still roaming the streets without meaningful jobs.

"I would practice management by objectives and would work hard to improve and boost tourism in the Central region and also change "the face" of the metropolis to befit its current status. Mr Sagoe said he was happy that President Kuffour was giving the people of Cape Coast a new market and stadium, but was quick to add that all these development projects were in the seven- year-development projects of Dr Nkrumah.

He gave the assurance that, the CPP would rehabilitate all the collapsed industries and factories that existed in Dr Nkrumah's era. He called for unity within the party and urged the members to ensure that they vote massively for the party and assured them that he would not neglect them when he gets to parliament.

Mr Adu Ansah, Regional Chairman of the party, called on those who have turned 18 years to register when the voter's register is re-opened and urged the polling station assistants to be vigilant during the voting and counting of the ballots.

He said the party would work hard to win more people to its fold and assured them that, the CPP "would surely win and move to the flagstaff house come January 2009."

Mr Ansah urged all members to embark on a house to house campaign and endeavour to market the party to Ghanaians particularly the youth, who did not know much about the history of the CPP. He said there was no future for Ghanaians, particularly the youth and that it was only the new CPP which could provide a brighter future for the country with its good policies and programmes as stated in the party's manifesto, to push the nation's development forward. Mr Ansah expressed his concern about the recent media reports on the party's flagbearer, Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom and urged the members to be steadfast and continue supporting him, since "he was the only one who could save Ghanaians from the current economic hardships." The regional chairman said the CPP was committed to a free and fair elections and called on the EC to ensure that it is conducted in a peaceful atmosphere. 7 June 08
