Calm nerves on pilot registration – Kofi Adams tells NPP

Anxious opposition New Patriotic Party(NPP) must calm nerves on the pilot biometric registration exercise since the facility is only being tried just for a dummy purpose, National Organiser of the ruling National Democratic Congress, Kofi Adams has urged NPP.

“This will not be incorporated onto the existing registration data…because this is just mock registration, and I don’t know how that data will be captured and kept, Adams told Kasapa 102.3 FM Thursday.

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is contesting the extent of upgrade undertaken by the Electoral Commission on the new Biometric Registration Kits (BVR kits) for the impending limited Voter registration.

According to the NPP, nothing has been done to improve the machines as the election management body claims, a situation the opposition party contends could still threaten a free and fair election.

Speaking on Anopa Kasapa Mr Kofi Adams reiterated the pilot registration exercise is to test the upgrade of the software for the biometric registration, and see how best it functions during the crucial elections.

On the 20 centres sampled for the pilot exercise, Mr. Adams said since this was not the first trial of the machine in Ghana, choosing a few selected areas to test-run the upgraded software is representative enough of how the machine will work.
