CPP has not declared support for Kufuor

Accra, May 12, GNA - The Central Committee (CC) of the Conventions People's Party (CPP) on Monday said it had not declared support for President John Agyekum Kufuor as Flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2004 elections.
It, therefore, declared as null and void the decision of the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem (KEEA) constituency to declare support for the NPP Flagbearer in the 2004 general election.
A statement signed by Nii Noi Dowuona, General Secretary and made available to the Ghana News Agency, said the National Congress has the sole authority to decide on matters, which bordered on shifts in party policy and general election among other issues.
The CC said its attention was drawn to the matter in a media report, adding that endorsement of candidates for parliamentary elec! tions comes under its authority.
"The CC entreats all regional constituency executives to acquaint themselves with relevant provisions of the CPP Constitution on the conduct of business at meetings of organs of the Party
"Constituency conferences must keep their functions within its limits defined by Article 45 of the party's Constitution."
The statement noted that constituencies could make proposals on matters pertaining to the development of the party to the National Executive Council through their respective Regional Executives for consideration at Congress.
