CPP exists only at lips level-Youth Activist.

As the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) heads towards its delegates congress in April, a leading youth activist of the party has said that the CPP needs a reformed and revolutionary leadership that is capable of transforming the party from its present state into a strong, viable and dominant political grouping. In an interview to declare his intention to contest for the office of the National Youth Organizer of the CPP, Kadri Abdul Rauf Issifu, explained revolutionary leadership to mean a political leadership that employs hands-on approach to solving organizational problems. This he said include instilling revolutionary spirit in the people so that even when the leadership fails, the people will be able to bring them back into line.

He noted that the CPP hardly has structures in the constituencies “and said CPP today exists only at the lips level”

He said currently the CPP is saddled with organizational challenges especially at the grassroots and this has contributed to the lackluster performance of the party at elections. Kadri Abdul Rauf said it was unfortunate that “even in the Brong Aharfo region-a region created by Dr.Kwame Nkrumah, the political party he founded cannot boast of a regional office let alone a parliamentary seat”. He stressed there is a pressing need for the party to make its presence felt across all the 230 constituencies in the country if the CPP is to make any meaningful impact in 2012 and beyond. “We should have structures in every constituency and we must ensure that these structures work in the interest of the party” he stated.

He said the party also needs to revive its youth wing to win more ‘souls ‘into its fold.

According to Kadri Abdul Rauf, his desire to become the National Youth Organizer of the CPP was informed by this need to awaken the youth front in the constituencies and in the tertiary institutions because the survival of the CPP hinges on a strong youth base.

He declared that the CPP today needs selfless and dedicated people to lead it in into the future adding what the CPP does not need is people “who will betray the course of the party”.

The CPP’s national party delegates’ congress will take place from April 29 to 30 2011 to elect national officers.
